Memorial Day, a Day of Rememberence

This is the day that we celebrate our fallen soldiers that are, and were, fighting for our country. I never fully understood what this day was all about until I was in combat myself, in Viet-Nam. It is as though someone had opened up a set of floodgates, and then I knew. This is not only a Memorial Day to remember those that have fallen, but also a day to remember all who is still fighting for the safety of our shores, as well as the democracy that they fight for, for all who desire freedom which some of our soldiers gave the ultimate sacrafice of their lives, to protect our rights, as well as the rights of others whom thirst for freedom. These are the men and women who put their lives on hold, sacrifice time with their young ones, as well as time spent with their families that love them so. These are the people who give their all to fight for, and support our country, as well as their families, to protect them against terrorist, and foreign countries who would otherwise like to see America fall. They fight for our rights and freedoms that so many have fought for before them.

This is a time-honored tradition that will forever live on though the spirits of those that have lost their lives, or fallen in battle. For those soldiers that have come back without limbs, or eyesight, if asked, they would say that they would gladly do it over again for the right of our freedom, and to protect our shores and families. This is the act of ultimate heroism. All wars and conflicts, are indeed unfortunate, but seem to be the "necessary evils" that exist since time began. There have been wars that were not so popular, like the Viet-Nam war. Some people do not understand our soldiers were sent, that fought over there. It was in support of agreements made by our government years prior to the conflict, and way before our soldiers time to serve, this was a war that was enforced by our government, that we had to do, why? Because America gave their word that they would be southern Viet Nam's allies should the threat of communism rear its ugly head, which it did. Once again, America stayed true to its word. There are various other thoughts about this conflict, but that was the bottom line reason.

I think that this is the time that we should take the time to pray for our soldiers that are still being killed in Iraq, and still lay their lives on the line to protect our / and Iraq's people. I think that this is the time for us to pray for our fallen soldiers that have fallen in past wars, who represented our country. No matter what you may think about our government, or the people who run it, it is OUR COUNTRY, and we should respect that, as well as support our soldiers that are sent into combat, some not knowing why, but who are faithful enough to our country to support the "CALL" of our country. Those who go into combat without question these are our true hero's. I, and my brother, as well as my father, and my third cousin, were glad to serve our country in the Navy, all in combat, and all without question we served, proudly. Remember and pray for our hero's, both fallen, and active. They represent us.

This is in remembrance of my brother, Larry Halsey, my father Wallace C. Halsey, and my third cousin William "Bull" Halsey, and Fleet AdmiralWe would do it again.
